A Welcome Letter from ASHT's New Executive Director

Posted by Gene S. Terry, CAE 08/03/2014

I am excited and honored to join your organization as the new executive director. I want to thank everyone for your warm welcome. Also, I want to thank Karen Peterson, Headquarters staff and the board for their support and assistance in helping me transition into this position. Following in Karen’s shoes will not be easy, but with your input, participation and support, we can be assured that the American Society of Hand Therapists has a bright future.
My set of professional experiences includes a number of positions in the non-profit industry. I have worked for stand-alone organizations such as the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association and the March of Dimes. Most recently, I worked for an association management company, serving as the chief staff executive for the American Association for Paralegal Education and the American Headache Society. In these roles, I was responsible for all activities including budgeting, financial management, board, committee and volunteer management, membership recruitment and retention, regional and annual meetings, continuing education program management, new program development and alliance building with parent organizations.
I thank the ASHT Board of Directors for this leadership opportunity. I recognize I have a lot to learn and I intend to invest time and attention to get to know and understand the ASHT culture; policies and procedures; and the legislative environment impacting the broader hand, occupational and physical therapy community. I stand with the ASHT board in its commitment to developing resources designed to educate and help members navigate a pathway toward clinical success.
Lastly, we have a great staff team here at the ASHT. We are all focused on providing great customized service. Feel free to reach out to any of us at any time; we are happy to hear from you.
Best regards,
Gene S. Terry, CAE
