Dr. James M. Hunter, was an honorary member of ASHT. He served as a mentor and teacher to many hand surgeons and hand therapists for more than four decades.  He helped shape the professions of hand surgery and hand therapy and his vision is proof that one person could make a difference.
Evelyn J. Mackin, a founding member of ASHT, credits Dr. Hunter's unwavering support for hand therapy as an essential component to the development of ASHT and the Journal of Hand Therapy.
"Jim Hunter had the ability to lift those around him, hand surgeons and hand therapists alike, to the level of excellence that he always expected of them." - Evelyn J. Mackin
