Support ASHT on #GivingTuesday

Posted by Rachel Pigott, MPH, OTR/L, CHT 11/20/2017

Giving Tuesday (held the day after Cyber Monday) is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of charitable giving and is a great time for end-of-year giving. ASHT is thankful for the generous gifts throughout the year, and hopes that on November 28, 2017, when people globally consider, giving you will think of your professional society. ASHT’s mission is to build and support the community for professionals dedicated to the excellence of hand therapy. We have three restricted giving funds that are utilized to meet specific purposes in this mission.

  • Vision Fund: This fund supports ASHT’s strategic initiatives in advocacy, education and research. One of the recent uses of the Vision Fund is our new Legislative Action Center (LAC). Through the LAC, ASHT was able to mount a strong response to CMS 6012-P, which threatened therapists’ ability to fabricate and appropriately bill for custom orthoses. This rule has since been withdrawn, but the need to advocate for our profession continues. The LAC is a great tool to advocate to lawmakers on a large scale.  With many voices, the message becomes clearer and the importance of the issue is harder to ignore.

  • Annual Meeting Sessions Fund: This fund supports ASHT’s ability to provide quality evidence-based education to hand therapy practitioners. This year, ASHT was able to provide an exceptional cadaveric anatomy dissection session at our 40th Annual Meeting in Anaheim thanks to this fund.
  • Awards and Scholarship Fund: This fund is dedicated to promoting and recognizing professional development in hand rehabilitation specialists.

Your generous donations throughout the year have helped to make these great achievements possible. ASHT strives to promote excellence in hand rehabilitation. Help us to continue advocating, promoting excellence in research and educating by making your donation today on this #GivingTuesday.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
