Now Available: Clinical Assessment Recommendations, 3rd ed.

Posted by Rebecca von der Heyde, PhD, OTR/L, CHT 11/04/2013

It is with great excitement that we offer you the first three updated chapters of ASHT Clinical Assessment Recommendations, 3rd edition. This project was first pursued by ASHT in 1981 with a second edition published in 1992. Both editions were widely utilized by clinicians. This third edition will be offered completely in online format and provided as a complimentary ASHT member benefit.
ASHT Clinical Assessment Recommendations, 3rd edition was envisioned by editor Joy MacDermid, PT, PhD to be written in terminology and by themes that align with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF). The ICF provides a conceptual framework with which to measure health and ability with an emphasis on function. ASHT Clinical Assessment Recommendations, 3rd edition is organized within this framework in the following parts:
Part One: Basic Considerations
Part Two: Body Structure Evaluations
Part Three: Body Function Evaluations
Part Four: Activity and Participation
Part Five: Reporting Outcomes in Context
This project has been significantly more extensive and complex as there are more outcome instruments and measures in existence now as compared to when earlier editions of Clinical Assessment Recommendations were produced. In addition, since the first two editions, we have far more information about the psychometric properties of these tests. We will be offering online chapters from different sections as they are completed and hope you find the initial three chapters on edema, grip strength and burns as thoughtful contributions to your clinical repertoire.
