Mary Kasch Scholarship: Making it Possible

Posted by Marti Simpson 01/25/2016

The Mary Kasch Hand Therapy Certification Scholarship is the embodiment of passion and mentorship when it comes to hand therapy. As a therapist working in a rural government hospital in South Africa, I didn’t think I would stand a chance to receive this award.

The CHT program has been an amazing opportunity that I never thought would cross my way. It has only been made possible as a result of the Mary Kasch Hand Therapy Certification Scholarship for which I will be eternally grateful.

As a South African therapist in a rural government hospital, it is my opinion that therapists can easily use the lack of resources and equipment as the scapegoat for not achieving adequate outcomes with patients. Even though resources are essential, I have come to realize that knowledge is the ultimate tool and is within every therapist’s reach.

The CHT program has been challenging, but worth all the effort and time I had to put into passing the exam. I have also come to realize that knowledge is a humbling experience and know that passing the exam is merely another step in the right direction. I believe this has set the platform for continuous learning and hope to do so in further studies, but especially in the application of what I have learned.

I would recommend the CHT program to every therapist who is serious about giving their patients the best healthcare in upper limb rehabilitation. Once again, thank you to the Mary Kasch Hand Therapy Certification Scholarship for making this possible.
