April is #OTMonth!

Let’s celebrate OT Month with the hand therapists in our organization and with those who collaborate with them to ensure solidarity within our healthcare arena.

We are stronger when we work together. Collaboration serves us all, as our voice is greater when echoed throughout various channels. It is quite profound that the theme for Occupational Therapy Month 2020 is Embracing Challenges, Enhancing Lives. This is truly inspirational and somewhat poetic during this uncertain time when we are sailing in unchartered waters.

It’s a time for solidarity. We can grow from this if we study the positive and negative actions that will ultimately take us through this period. I encourage everyone to network, stay on top of the facts and use our parent organizations to help guide our practice. Difficult times will strengthen us if we reflect on the successes and failures, and continue to learn and grow.

There’s always a glimpse of light in dark times. It is comforting to know our association is working closely with the parent organizations, AOTA and APTA, and legislators to forge forward in helping our patients, supply professional and personal resources. Together, they will lighten the load, understanding we are not in this alone.

Parent associations need to be supported by specialty practice groups. This is a great time to consider joining AOTA. The cost of membership is minimal in comparison to the resources available to its members. Currently, member-only access to “OT in the age of Coronavirus (COVID-19)” has been lifted to make these resources available to those needing help making important decisions during this pandemic.

It’s OT Month… Let’s embrace the challenges of today and enhance the lives of those who depend on us tomorrow.
