Saurabh Mehta is a 35 years young physiotherapist. His research interests are fall-related, including upper extremity injuries, their impact on mobility and functions, outcome measurement and designing innovative treatment programs to optimize functions in older adults. Saurabh is currently completing his PhD at McMaster University under Dr Joy MacDermid.
Saurabh immigrated to Canada in 2002 from India. He says, “I consider myself extremely fortunate to have received the Evelyn Mackin Grant. I feel that it will not only help to complete my thesis work, but also will have a substantial impact on my future work.”
Nancy Forget is an occupational therapist in Canada. She has practiced in hand therapy at both the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke in Quebec, Canada, and the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal in Montréal. She received her bachelor’s degree from McGill University in 1999, her master’s in Biomedical Sciences (rehabilitation) from the Université de Montréal in 2007 and is currently working toward her Ph.D in Public Health (epidemiology) at the Université de Montréal.
Her past research focused on DeQuervain’s disease, and her current doctoral studies are focused on the functional difficulties associated with Dupuytren’s contracture. Nancy is also the leader of another research project seeking to describe work productivity (presenteeism) in the years after a musculoskeletal trauma, and is interested in knowledge translation, especially in the training of new hand therapists.
Nancy has also been a faculty lecturer at the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy at McGill University, and is the mother of three daughters.
Nancy says of winning the award, “[It] was a great experience. I was thrilled the importance of my research project was recognized by my peers. Because there is no research done in hand rehabilitation in Quebec, getting funding or recognition is difficult. This award will permit me to buy the necessary assessments required to complete my study and also serves as the first building stone for my future research lab. I warmly thank ASHT for this award.”
