Membership Criteria and Procedures

The table below includes basic information about the four levels of ASHT Membership: Active Member, Associate Member, Affiliate Member, and Student Member.

Must be a certified hand therapist	Associate Member/Step-Up Associate Member	Must be a certified or licensed occupational therapy assistant or physical therapy assistant.	Must be enrolled in an accredited entry-level (bachelors/masters) occupational or physical therapy degree program
Procedure
Submit photocopy of Hand Therapy Certification Commission certificate.	Submit a photocopy of state license or AOTCD certificate. Members who graduated from a PT or OT program within the last year should submit a copy of their diploma from the college or university or an unofficial copy of final transcript in order to be eligible for reduced dues rates.	Submit a photocopy of state license or COTA certificate.	Submit photocopy proof of student status
Rights and Duties
An active member may vote, hold elected office and participate on, and chair, committees.	An associate member may serve on, but not chair, committees and may vote only to elect an associate representative. If an associate member in his/her course of membership becomes a certified hand therapist, it is required that the member sends a copy of his/her HTCC certificate in order to become an active member.	An affiliate member may serve on, but not chair, committees.	Student members may serve on, but not hold elective office or chair committees. Student members cannot vote.
