Valeri Calhoun MS, OTR/L, CHT
Valeri is an occupational therapist with over 28 years of experience in a variety of settings. She received her BS in OT from Indiana University and an MS in Community Health from the University of Kansas. Valeri has been a Certified Hand Therapist since 1994. In addition to working in clinical settings, her experience includes over 15 years teaching at the graduate level for occupational therapy programs in the Midwest, including St. Louis University and Midwestern University.
Valeri has provided professional presentations and lectures for therapists and industries on a variety of topics. For the past 2 years, she has been on the faculty of ASHT’s comprehensive review course for the CHT examination. She has been involved in ASHT’s annual meeting committee.
Valeri is a co-author of a recently (2011) published book : Goldfarb, C, Calhoun, V., Dailey, L., Manske, P., “Hand and Upper Extremity Therapy: Congenital, Pediatric and Adolescent Patients. St. Louis Protocols.” 2011.
Ms. Calhoun is involved in a pediatric hand surgery special interest group and is a participant in research projects regarding pediatric orthopedic care through her employment at Shriners Hospital for Children. She has been implemental in the development and is director of a Hand Camp for children with upper limb differences.
This webinar will provide information on the diagnosis of pediatric radial longitudinal deficiency. It will include diagnostic categories along with providing clinical pictures and potential functional limitations associated with this diagnosis. The webinar will address possible surgical and non-surgical interventions including post op protocols. The use of orthoses both pre and post operatively will be included.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the diagnosis of Radial longitudinal deficiency.
- Describe potential functional limitations of children with the diagnosis of radial longitudinal deficiency.
- Discuss possible surgical intervention for this diagnosis along with the post op therapy protocols following these surgical interventions.
- Apply clinical decision making for the pediatric population regarding potential splinting for the diagnosis of radial longitudinal deficiency.
