Course Testimonial
The course went very well; we were very pleased with the speaker, content, organization and hands on learning.
Our rehab department at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital was looking for training and education in the area of hand therapy and splinting/orthotic fabrication for one of our occupational therapists. We were having difficulty finding courses that were focused on the novice and that offered basics in orthotic fabrication. We would have had to pay significant travel costs in addition to course costs and lost time at work for our OT to attend an appropriate level course in another part of the country.
I came across the ASHT website and saw that they offered customized splinting courses. This was ideal for our situation. Our OT would only have to spend one day out of the clinic, we could choose the orthoses that she needed to focus on and we could offer this course to other therapists in our region. Our staff OT gained a significant amount of confidence with hand and wrist orthosis fabrication after this lab intensive course. She is now able to move forward and help us continue to grow our hand therapy program.
The course was lab intensive and we were able to learn about and make 8 splints in the 1 day. The speaker was extremely proficient and was able to make everyone more confident in what they were doing. We were able to have a smaller group which allowed for a good instructor to student ratio and allowed the instructor to be very thorough with what was being presented and fabricated.
We may plan on doing this again in the future, being able to work on more intermediate to advanced splinting options.
