Welcome to the Government News Center! An ASHT Government Relations staff person, located in Washington, DC, is continuing to help the Headquarters staff and Advocacy Division monitor the many issues at hand. Each month, check the members only area for a report on the previous month's activity. You can also access archived reports as well.
ASHT is proud to announce two new L-codes have been officially approved by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)!
The 2007 HCPCS books will have the following new codes:
L3808: WHFO rigid - “WRIST HAND FINGER ORTHOSIS, RIGID WITHOUT JOINTS, MAY INCLUDE SOFT INTERFACE MATERIAL, STRAPS, CUSTOM FABRICATED, INCLUDES FITTING AND ADJUSTMENT”
Note: This would be equivalent to a forearm based “resting pan” or “safe position” splint or any static forearm based orthosis which includes the fingers.
L3806: WHFO dynamic - “WRIST HAND FINGER ORTHOSIS, INCLUDES ONE OR MORE NONTORSION JOINTS(S), ELASTIC BANDS, TURNBUCKLES, MAY INCLUDE SOFT INTERFACE MATERIAL, STRAPS, CUSTOM FABRICATED, INCLUDES FINTTING AND ADJUSTMENT”.
Note: This would be equivalent to any forearm based orthosis that includes the fingers and has a dynamic component to at least one joint.
• This code is set to be in effect on January 1, 2007, unless an earlier effective date is specified in the 2007 Annual HCPCS Update.
• As of this date, pricing/reimbursement for these two new codes has not yet been established by CMS. Please log onto the CMS website for updates.
ASHT is proud to represent hand therapists by investing time and money on this project which will greatly benefit all therapists providing orthoses to patients.
In addition, ASHT would like to thank HTCC for their collaboration and financial support in pursuing these essential codes for all hand therapists.
